Whether you are just visiting our troop, or have already made
the choice to join our troop, we’d like to welcome you! Troop
398 got its start in 2000, so we are a fairly young troop. We
are chartered through the Marine View Presbyterian (MVP) Church
in Dash Point. Our meetings are held each Tuesday at the old
Dash Point School (located next to the MVP Church), at 7:00 p.m.
sharp. [Map/Directions]
One of the
goals of Troop 398 is to help you advance through
Boy Scouting and reach the pinnacle your
Eagle badge! Along the way, we also hope you will
gain hands-on experience in various leadership
roles, helping Troop 398 achieve another one of
its goals, to stay a Boy-Run Troop.
All boys
just joining the troop will be placed in a Pedro
Patrol. This patrol will be assigned a registered
adult Patrol Advisor and a Boy Scout as Troop
Guide. The Troop Guide will be your Patrol Leader
during this interim period (about five months).
He will lead the Pedro Patrol through many of the
early requirements going from Boy Scout through
Second Class and into part of First Class.
There will be enough
Troop Guides assigned to ensure at least one for
each new patrol. Parents of the new scouts
interested in becoming Patrol Advisors will be
identified during the interim period and work
closely with the interim Patrol Advisor so that
they can assume this role at the end the five
month period.
When you
are about two months away from joining Troop 398,
you should purchase your Boy Scout Handbook. Pay
special attention to the requirements for the Boy
Scout badge. You will notice they are nearly the
same as your requirements for your Arrow of
Light. By reviewing these requirements and having
those skills mastered before you begin attending
our troop meetings, you will have a great
head start on your way to Eagle!
